Recent University sector work

Teaching Business Strategy and Enterprise Development at Teesside University. Developing and delivering courses covering SME Enterprise startup, SME consultancy issues, SME culture and personal development skills for SME businesses.

An ERDF contract for Teesside University, studying Innovation Research and its role in wealth creation. This was a follow up to my MBA thesis which investigated motivation theories, technology transfer techniques and opportunity costs for employees in their career path.   This in preparation for a Research Degree thesis, to be undertaken part time 2002-2006. The business complements this but is a separate entity and runs totally independently (Charles Handy called it a portfolio career, I call it keeping busy!)

I have been asked to lecture at a number of UK universities, mostly at MSc level:

Collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University in their teaching programme as part of my role in developing links with industry. Preparing short courses on instrumentation for Sheffield Hallam.

Optical Scattering Techniques (Society for Chemistry & Industry Seminar)

Environmental Monitoring (Napier University)

Clean Technology (Teesside University)

Large Company use of R&D Collaborative Projects (Yorkshire & Humberside launch of 5th Framework conference)

I have also attended several international and national conferences, ranging from the "International Conference on Rapid Detection Assays for Food and Drink", to SCI seminars on electrochemistry and optical sensors. Have chaired SWIG (A water industry research group) seminars, most recently on the use of optical technologies in water treatment (PSA and turbidity).

Other completed work in the last few years includes:

This in conjunction with the Sheffield Universities, where a centre of excellence in certain sectors of the industry already exist. Barnsley Business Innovation Centre (BBIC) features prominently in this arena.

Contributing to a "Blue Book" on onsite monitoring for a Standing Committee of Analysts group chaired by the Environment Agency.
