This comes from Chris's background in environmental measurement and sensor technical research, coupled with his interest in innovation, the economics of business growth and entrepreneurship.

It is reinforced by his experience in the influences of business culture on technology transfer. Until last year he worked part time at the University of Teesside, teaching a range of material from Small Business (SME) Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Development, to International Business Strategy and Personal Development skills, at under and post graduate levels.

This teaching, coupled with extensive recent business consultancy, provides an ideal framework for working with startup, diversifying or spinoff companies. There are very few consultancies containing both current technical and business expertise. Chris personally has undertaken well over 50 consultancy jobs in the past couple of years.

This is backed up by work with other UK universities wishing to capitalise on Chris's expertise in the SME sector -a field most of the more "traditional" universities have tended to ignore in the face of more lucrative contracts with large business. The technical expertise in the process industries and environmental sector is backed by extensive experience of, and research into, the cultural factors influencing business success.
